The non-decomposing body of St. Francis Xavier
During the rule of Portuguese in Goa in the year 1542, St. Francis Xavier had begun spreading the gospel. One of the great influential persons of his times, he planned to introduce Christianity to China. He left to China with other members of an embassy, but unfortunately other members didn’t last the trip whereas St. Fracis Xavier continued his journey and stayed at Macau. Here he spent the last days of his life and his body was brought to Goa in the year 1553. Enshrined in glass casing, St. Francis Xavier’s non-decomposed body still remains to be at the world-famous Basilica of Bom Jesus Church.
3.Highest per capita income in India
Visiting Goa has never ended with a feeling of leaving the place happily. The pristine beaches and scenic beauty of the state has never failed to lure its tourist and visitors with natural beauty. In the state of Goa, the Laterite stone is abundant that was discovered by a Dutch traveller to the people about the iron in the stones of Goa. This was revealed in the early 16th century. Goa, at present exports large volume of mineral ores to Japan. Some more elements such as bauxite, magnesia, limestone and clay are also now being exported as a part of mineral exports from Goa.
5.Goa has Aisa’s only Naval Aviation Museum
Yes. You read it right. Goa’s Naval Aviation museum is one of its kind museum across Asia and in fact, is the only naval aviation museum. The museum displays India’s naval aviation history beautifully ranging from reconnaissance ship named Lockheed Super constellation, to contemporary aircraft, jet aircrafts, helicopters and many others.
